Educational programs

The environmental processes in the country and nature can be understood only by people with a certain level of education and the knowledge of the problem. Therefore it is important to provide the environmental education to all people of every age. The education should be delivered in different ways like lectures, exhibitions, seminars, competitions and similar. All kinds of media should be involved in delivering, as well (local and national radio, bulletins, Internet and so on ). The emphasis should be put on the environmental education at pre-school facilities, elementary and secondary schools. Special courses should be provided for employees in all companies using and working with natural resources like soil, water, air and so on. These courses should be run by local governments, civil and professional associations.

Reintroducing of the tree vegetation in the agricultural country

The agricultural land is also formed by different kinds of bushes and trees, which create water absorption zones, windshields, live fences, tufts or bank covers. They can be found mainly on slopes, terraces, field boundaries, along dirt roads, streams or rivers.

The trees in agricultural country have several very important functions. The first of all they strengthen the ecological stability of the land. They have a soil protection function (anti-erosive), as well. The lines of trees in fields also positively influence the air-flow which is especially important in areas with prevailing chilly or droughty winds. The bank covers protect water in streams and rivers against chemicals used in agriculture. The tree vegetation in agricultural land is also a nesting place of many kinds of birds and habitat of many species of animals and insects securing pollinating of agricultural plants. Many various kinds of plants can be found there, too, including those, which are rare. On the whole, there is much higher bio-diversity than in intensively used cropland.

The loss of the tree vegetation in the agricultural land caused by the former deforestation and field integrating has had a strong negative impact on biological and ecological functions of the country. To support the ecological stability of the country it is necessary to recreate its original character.

The civil monitoring of rivers and streams

When dealing with the polluted water in rivers it is necessary to involve all groups, authorities, companies civil associations and people who are effected by the pollution.

The monitoring should be carried out by local voluntary groups mostly consisting of school students. They should test, examine and assess all the aspects of the water cleanliness, the technological parameters as is concentration of different chemicals, pH value, oxygen and so on. They should also check the quality of fauna and vegetation along the rivers and streams (nesting places, quality of the animal habitat and bank covers). And finally the voluntary groups should monitor illegal dump yards and other sources of pollution.

The part of the program is to encourage forming of the voluntary groups, which would take care of a certain part of local river.

The management of protected areas and protection of species

There are important national parks in the region of the Tatra Mountains, which include many national preserves. The object of protection varies preserve to preserve therefore every preserve requires specific management and protection. we will encourage all activities supporting the bio-diversity in the Liptov region like natural forests, moors, mountain meadows and similar, according the interests of the nature protection.

Promoting and encouraging the bioproducts and traditional local crafts

As well as positive impact the globalization brings about many negative effects like breaking up of the traditional production and communities, change of the consumer attitude, unemployment and so on.

We will encourage and promote local production, growing, selling and consuming of the bio-products, LET systems (local exchange trade), all based on sustainable development, which naturally maintain the high quality of life and employment.

Protection, saving and reasonable using of natural resources

The transformation of the Slovak society, reform of the local government, institutional development of the Slovak countryside brings new possibilities of solving the waste problems, clean air protection, using of water and timber sources, production and distribution of the energy and so on.

How to help

The realization of the above objectives requires appropriate financial and human sources. We are trying to find such sources. If you think you could help either financially, technically, with material, voluntary work or in any other way contact us, please, on the address written in this brochure. If not, pass it on. Thank you.
