The boreal forest ecosystem continues to be destroyed at an alarming rate. Why has the sustainability of forest related employment and the viability of local communities not improved, in spite of the increased logging? How to preserve the ecological values of the forests and at the same time provide the local communities with employment?

Using Karelia as its focus, the Third International TRN Conference will combine indigenous, industry, science and NGO perspectives to explore this key question in the debate on protection and use of the world's boreal forests.
