The article was inspired by the results of a referendum concerned with the possibility that the 2006 winter Olympic games may be organized in the Poprad-Tatry region. The results found that 97 % of the inhabitants from 8 towns support the candidature of their region for the 2006 Olympic games. The article discusses several doubts which arise from the surprisingly high level of support, and questions if the inhabitants have been correctly informed about the responsibility of this decision concerning the possible negative impacts which may effect the two national parks. The doubt is enhanced by the belief that the citizens might only be considering the economic gain instead of weighing the economic against the natural value which may be irreversibly effected by the development connected with the Olympic games.
