S o u r c e : Title of journal: DAPHNE Publisher: DAPHNE - Center for Applied Ecology Year: 1997, Number: 2 Reflexion on Environmental Impact Assessment of Highways The article was inspired by the liberal governmental plan of increased highway construction by the year 2005. The article discusses the specific slovakian conditions in relation to highway construction and takes into account experiences from the application of the Environmental Impact Assessment Act. The author proposes several pertinant questions that need to be solved to balance the environmental, social and economic criteria of the EIA procedure. The conclusion is devoted to reflexion on Slovakia’s state of awareness and it’s environmental future in European and the world, and results from the basic question: How does Slovakia value the environment and what we are willing to lose for it?
