Land Stewardship in the New England States
The article summarizes experiences from the five week Fellowship
Program on Land Conservation and Stewardship which was organized
and granted by the Quebec Labrador Foundation/ Atlantic Center
for the Environment. The Program took place in four states of
New England. The focus is given to the highlight the concept of
Land Stewardship and its realization in the New England region.
The article further describes the various stewardship tools with
emphasis on the fastest growing technique, conservation
easement. The variety of different non-profit conservation
organizations and agencies, private and governmental and their
role in the land stewardship are discussed. The last part of the
article is devoted to personal comments on applicability of the
stewardship approach in central Europe with regard to some
differences between those two regions.
