Invasions  by  invasive  organisms have become a serious problem worldwide  and  result  in  significant environmental, economic, health  and  social  impact.  This  article was a subject at the conference  held  in  Nitra  in  November,  1996.  More  than 60 participants  from the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia were discussing  problems  of  invasive  organisms  from a global and local  perspective  in  respect to their monitoring, control and management.   The   conference  resulted  in  several  important conclusions  and recommendations which are listed in the article.
