Society for Sustatinable Living in SR

The Approach to Sustainable Communities.
14 - 16 June 1999

Dear colleagues,

We would like to inform you that Academia Istropolitana Bratislava, in co-operation with STUZ-Slovakia (Society for Sustainable Living), and financial support from OSF (Program ”East- East”) are organising an international Meeting (round-table discussion) entitled International Co-operation - the Approach to Sustainable Communities.

The goals of the workshops focus on the following:

-To set up a framework for international co-operation between regional media, local authorities, NGOs and independent environmental journalists from Slovak and Czech Republic, Ukraine, and Hungary as a prerequisite for building up a common strategy in raising public awareness in matters concerning Local Agenda 21.

-To develop, to transfer and to disseminate examples of good practice at the local, regional and national levels.

Central point: Human values compatible with a sustainable way of life in relationships to consumption - production patterns.

We would like to define and compare the contemporary situation and development trends in different countries, regions or communities in connection with the above mentioned problem.

The participants will have opportunities to exchange experience in making environmental information systems more transparent and available to the public. They also will have a chance to develop, to transfer and to disseminate examples of good practice.

Language of the Meeting: English (Slovak interpretation for workshops and in-country trips).

The date of Meeting is June, 14 -16.

The meeting will take place in Bratislava, Academia Istropolitana, Hanulova 5/B.

The organizers can support the participants from Central and Eastern European Countries - (Czech and Slovak Republic, Ukraine, Hungary) and can cover their accommodation, meals and travel expenditures.

There will be no registration or participation fee, as we hope that your abstracts/paper and active participation in the workshops will be your contribution to our Meeting.

We would like to receive your abstracts (maximum 2 pages, A4) or papers (maximum 10 pages, A4) no later than May 31, 1999. Please, send it to Academia Istroplitana by e-mail: acadistr@computel.sk, version Word for Windows. Abstracts/papers will be included in the working Manual International Co-operation - the Approach to Sustainable Communities (Examples of Good Practice).

-Ethics Values Compatible with a Sustainable Way of Life (consumption-production patterns - examples of good practice, improvement of consumption behaviour, etc. )

    - Sustainable Cities (including sustainable transportation, energy saving, waste management, nature protection activities, etc.)
